Hospitals, care and clinics, UK wide
Healthcare Health and Safety
Healthcare exists to keep people safe, which makes safety failures all the more serious. AL23 Safety provides occupational health and safety support to hospitals, care homes, clinics and dental practices across the UK, helping you protect staff and patients in high-pressure environments while your CQC duties are met alongside.
Why it matters in healthcare
The risks are real and so are the duties
Healthcare settings combine demanding physical work, vulnerable people and biological and chemical hazards. The Care Quality Commission regulates the quality and safety of care but you still carry separate workplace health and safety duties as an employer.
Our role is that occupational side, helping you keep staff safe so they can keep patients safe.
The main risks
Where the harm comes from
The hazards that cause the most serious harm in this sector and the ones we focus on first.
Moving and handling
Patient handling injuries are a leading cause of staff harm.
Sharps
Needlestick and sharps injuries, with their own specific regulations.
Infection and biological agents
Controlling exposure under COSHH.
Violence and aggression
Towards staff, particularly in front-line and care settings.
Slips, stress and fire
Including evacuation planning where patients cannot self-evacuate.
The regulations that apply
